You conjure an extradimensional dwelling in range that lasts for the duration. You choose where its one entrance is located. The entrance shimmers faintly and is 5 feet wide and 10 feet tall. You and any creature you designate when you cast the spell can enter the extradimensional dwelling as long as the portal remains open. You can open or close the portal if you are within 30 feet of it. While closed, the portal is invisible.
Beyond the portal is a magnificent foyer with numerous chambers beyond. The atmosphere is clean, fresh, and warm.
You can create any floor plan you like, but the space can’t exceed 50 cubes, each cube being 10 feet on each side. The place is furnished and decorated as you choose. It contains sufficient food to serve a nine-course banquet for up to 100 people. A staff of 100 near-transparent servants attends all who enter. You decide the visual appearance of these servants and their attire. They are completely obedient to your orders. Each servant can perform any task a normal human servant could perform, but they can’t attack or take any action that would directly harm another creature. Thus the servants can fetch things, clean, mend, fold clothes, light fires, serve food, pour wine, and so on. The servants can go anywhere in the mansion but can’t leave it. Furnishings and other objects created by this spell dissipate into smoke if removed from the mansion. When the spell ends, any creatures or objects left inside the extradimensional space are expelled into the open spaces nearest to the entrance.
* - (a miniature portal carved from ivory, a small piece of polished marble, and a tiny silver spoon, each item worth at least 5 gp)
why does this say it's available for Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster? EK and AT has neither access to 7th level spell slots or access to Conjuration spells regularly, was this a mistake?
yes but lets say you got your hands on a spell scroll that could cast this, those classes would be able to read and use the scroll even if they normally would not be able to learn the spell or have any slots high enough to cast it. other classes not listed here would not be able to use the scroll.
never thought about that, that's really cool.
Thanks!
"When the spell ends, any creatures inside the extradimensional space are expelled into the open spaces nearest to the entrance."
Does this imply that objects are NOT expelled, and persist within the mansion?
It lacks some of the wording from Demiplane so I personally would split the difference and say the spell recreates the mansion in the same place in the Astral Plane, but any material objects left there might end up in a different room the next time the mansion recreates itself. Which could be *hilarious*.
I imagine It is to allow you to refurnish the mansion to your liking?
Say you are staying in one location for a week. You cast the spell in the evening, spend your time sleeping to regain your spells, do whatever else you need to do during the day, and at the end of the day recast the spell. Does this increase the spell time or does it create a new portal, expelling whomever was in there previously?
I always treat it as a complete recast, so it resets the clock.
something i find to be strange is that unlike many similar spells such as temple of the gods, mighty fortress, druids grove or even nystuuls magic aura, i cannot make this spell permanent by recasting it. If this truly was an mistake, it shoul've been fixed by the thenth print of the PHB but it has not, meaning it is shurely intentional, aand this spell is the only of its kind to recive this treatment
To be fair, the other spells you mention create or enhance a physical space on your current plane. Magnificent Mansion opens a pocket dimension, it's a different thing entirely.
ah, that makes sense, thank you
What does it mean by a miniature portal?
Does it say anything about being on the astral plane?
Maybe a tiny door.
Would you be able to use the gate spell from within this mansion to get somewhere else, and could you use it to get into the mansion?
I think so. I think its because both the Arcane trickster and Eldritch knight, While only 1/3 casters, still pick spells from the wizard spell list.
I am, years late, and you probably have the answer, but by the rules of the game, they can cast it with the use of scroll, or similar object.
Any spell can be used to make a magic item or scroll so long as the crafter meets the level and component requirements.
Can this spell be cast inside another structure?
Yes. :)
