Because I can't be sure if you are being facetious or not. A d3 would be considered a d6 divided by two, rounded up.
While I don’t know if there is a physical d3, I do know there are digital ones.
I would imagine it would be 1-2=1, 3-4=2, and 5-6=3 on a D6 to get a D3 roll.
Would you not do 1-6 , 2-5, 3-4 this evenly spreads the result across the die
You can buy d3s. I've seen two types for sale: one is a d6 which each number on two sides, the others are d12 with each number on four sides.
Divide by 2, round up, just like standard dnd rules. That way you can have a d2 and d5 as well.
The Reason i use1-6 , 2-5, 3-4 is if you look at the opposite sides of a standard die they all add up to 7, its means you dont get edge dice rollers tying to up there chances its like people who use Rollup Die from MTG sets. they are super easy to fudge.
Math
Like a metal detector, but for magic. *****in.
i looked in the DMG on DnD Beyond but can't seem to find the full details including the item for its making.

A d2? You mean a coin? Roll d2 is equivalent to flip a coin.
Personally, I prefer the 1d1 option. Rolls cleaner
