Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement)
If you hold this beetle-shaped medallion in your hand for 1 round, an inscription appears on its surface revealing its magical nature. It provides two benefits while it is on your person:
- You have advantage on saving throws against spells.
- The scarab has 12 charges. If you fail a saving throw against a necromancy spell or a harmful effect originating from an undead creature, you can use your reaction to expend 1 charge and turn the failed save into a successful one. The scarab crumbles into powder and is destroyed when its last charge is expended.
Notes: Advantage: Saving Throws, Warding, Consumable, Jewelry
I’m trying to pick random magic items to describe as daelkyr creations so I’m better at that if I ever get to run an Eberron campaign.
“This wad of squirming flesh has pieces of a chitinous exoskeleton like that of a beetle. If undead come near or necromancy is used nearby, the plates all rush to the area defensively.
If you hold it in your hand for 1 round, you feel an intrusion into your mind itself, whispered nothingness explaining the functions of the Scarab.
When its last charge is expended, it shrieks quietly before dissolving into a bloody pulp”
I'm currently in an Eberron campaign and we just had dealings with some kind of daelkyr commander (my character released them upon the world, bonus is I got a Legacy Weapon like the Vestiges of Divergence) and this definitely sounds like something our DM would describe relating to the daelkyr, he's good with descriptions.
So you can 12 times take half damage from a necromancy spell? WEAK!
I believe that you have forgotten to calculate in your analysis the inclusion of the entities commonly known as mummies.
…and liches.
very good point
Forget the undead, in my book advantage on saving throws against spells sounds pretty sweet.
The mantle of spell resistance exists for this reason, and is only rare, as opposed to legendary. Though the scarab does have noteworthy upsides.
With this you can high-five a lich and watch the look on their face.
