Potion, common
You regain hit points when you drink this potion. The number of hit points depends on the potion’s rarity, as shown in the Potions of Healing table. Whatever its potency, the potion’s red liquid glimmers when agitated.
Potions of Healing
Potion of … | Rarity | HP Regained |
---|---|---|
Healing | Common | 2d4 + 2 |
Greater healing | Uncommon | 4d4 + 4 |
Superior healing | Rare | 8d4 + 8 |
Supreme healing | Very rare | 10d4 + 20 |
Notes: Bonus: Hit Points, Healing, Consumable
Would it be possible to add another column that show the standard price for each typ of potion? For example standard healing potion 50gp etc etc.
How to make a Potion of Healing.
So someone feeds you a potion of healing during combat while you were unconscious ... is ‘drinking’ your action for this round? Or can you, in the same round, stand up (using half your movement) and take an action?
How is this not an item you can add to your character inventory?
It is.
YES PLEASE!!!
Fifth edition seems to be going for a more 'magic is rare and special' feel to it. Magic items no longer have specific prices; only relative ones. You can find a basic guideline in the DMG, here, but basically, it's all up to the dungeon master.
(Edit: I had cut+pasted the table, but then I realized that info is in the DMG, and this is the basic rules section, so I removed it so as not to get into hot water with the Wizards.)
Anyway....if you're the player: ask your DM! If you're the DM, check out the DMG or... ya'know... make it up! You're running the game, after all. :-)
Potions of Healing cost half of a Magical Item of the same rarity.
Going by the rule that an item costs half of the total item value, Potions of Healing seem way overpriced for consumable items if you go by the non-consumable Magical Item value chart. However if you go by the Potion of Healing Crafting tables in Xanathar's, Potions of Healing are cheaper to craft than your average magic item (a quarter of the cost).
This checks out by comparing the cost to craft a Common Potion of Healing from Xanathar's and the cost of a Common Potion of Healing from the Player's Handbook.
Player's Handbook Potion of Healing (Common) = 50gp. Crafting cost = value / 2 = 25gp to craft.
Xanathar's Guide to Everything Potion of Healing (Common) crafting cost = 25gp. Item Value = Crafting cost x 2 = 50gp
Therefore the total costs of Potions of Healing are half of the standard prices of magical items from the DMG. Across the board, I'd rule this the same for all consumable magical items.
The latter. The action of administering the potion to you was taken by the other player; you don't also need to take an action to drink it. It's one or the other.
Greater, Superior and Supreme Healing potion are listed but the Standard potion does not show up on the item/inventory list.
Perhaps it is premium content, thus only is available for paying customers.
Regular = 50gp
Greater = 100gp
Superior = 500gp
Supreme = 5000gp
I added it to mine under the notes section the same way I put in the dice rolls for attack/ damage/ abilities so when I need to use it I can copy and paste that line and it will record the results when it's used.

You can add a basic potion of healing to your character inventory, but it's listed under equipment, and doesn't show up when the potion tag is clicked.We had the problem tonight, and unselecting potion was the way to find it under add items.
If someone feeds a potion of healing to a teammate, who rolls the dice? The person who is receiving the potion or the person who administered it?
Non premium member here, you can indeed find potion of healing in the item/inventory list. Do you have something crossed off? Like show only rare items or such. Potion of healing I believe is a common item so it will not show if you have marked one of the show only. Hope this helps

For those who ran into this same issue: The common healing potion is the only healing potion that isn’t classified as a potion in your character sheet. Instead, it’s set under “Other gear”. Definitely a bug that they need to fix.
if a player A is unconscious and player B uses their action to feed player A a health potion then in the initiative order on player A's next turn they will be conscious with however many health points were restored by the potion and prone.
