Potion, uncommon
The next time you see a creature within 10 minutes after drinking this philter, you become charmed by that creature for 1 hour. If the creature is of a species and gender you are normally attracted to, you regard it as your true love while you are charmed. This potion's rose-hued, effervescent liquid contains one easy-to-miss bubble shaped like a heart.
Notes: Charmed, Control, Consumable
I am listening to this being used in episode of Episode 109 of Critical Role.
Comedy gold.
Fantasy roofies
my character has a constant drip feed of these straight into their blood so they fall in love with everyone they see, its not fun to play but thats life i guess
According to the Character sheets, this weighs 1lb. But other potions (like potion of Healing) have a weight of 1/2 lb. Are there unique weights of these listed somewhere? It seems like an oversight to not list a weight with the magic items.
The heart-shaped bubble weighs 8 ounces.
Turducken
Literally as the DM I got 10 of these thrown on me :(
Imagine someone drinking this, purposefully, and looking into the mirror to Charm themselves.
"I'd f**k me"
what happens if a character attracted to, say, men was to look at a women. does it just not work or is there a charisma roll or something?
"If the creature is of a species and gender you are normally attracted to, you regard it as your true love while you are charmed."
"If"
"you become charmed by that creature for 1 hour." has zero relation whatsoever.
Something that seems quite obvious but I forgot about, is that if a creature is immune to charm this has no effect on them. So won't work on quite a few devils and stuff (especially higher cr).
My oath of Vengeance paladin has one of these and I have something planned for fighting the BBEG of the campaign. All I can say is Yandere.
The description says "if the creature is of a ... gender you are normally attracted to, ..." So the answer is that it doesn't work
If you are not normally attracted to them, then only the first part takes hold. You are charmed by them, but that usually means you think of them as your friend/you trust them. Or just whatever is in the charmed effect.
does anyone know if the person knows they were drugged when the thing wears off?
its indefinite, though dispel magic could end the effect
So this is essentially a date **** potion? Seems very inappropriate.
No. It is not. Philter of Love is essentially the "Charm Person Spell". And that states that the effect ends if the charmer or his compagnions do anything to the charmed person that this person sees as negative.
“Seems very inappropriate.”
It really is as simple as not including the content you don’t like in your personal game. You can even include the Philter of Love and simply change its abilities or set limits on how player characters are allowed to conduct themselves in your world so it’s less uncomfortable for you if you’re so inclined. You have the power.
That said, if we’re only focusing on the most disturbing or morally reprehensible actions a player character can commit using an item or spell, I’d wager it would be easy to label a massive number of them inappropriate.
