Hey, all. Last session, my character stumbled upon a good bit of gold (1,000 gp) and my DM has generously allowed me to use it to purchase an uncommon magic item of my choice (from XGE or TCOE, and of course the DMs guide). For reference, this character is a 3rd level Variant Human Scribes wizard.
What do you feel is the 'best' uncommon item for this character? (I understand that 'best' can be vague, and in this case I mean the most mechanically powerful option).
I've considered the obvious options (+1 Arcane Grimoire, Pearl of Power, etc;), but I'm curious what ideas the community has to add. Thoughts?
First thing I think of is spell scrolls, which you can then add to your book. Especially if you’re looking to add a damage type as a scribes wizard. Spells up to level 3 are uncommon. You could even take a level 3 spell and sit on it for a while, so you have an extra option when you hit level 5.
2nd and 3rd level scrolls are uncommon, 1st level and cantrip (you don't need) are common. I would take the 3rd level scrolls and hold until you can use them.
Pearl of power, stone of good luck, arcane grimoire +1, Wand of the warmage +1 (you can use this and grimoire together, but grimoire is better if only taking one) and headband of intellect (if you INT is under 19) are other options I found through donjon; 5e Magic Items (bin.sh).
This is common, not uncommon, but you could get an imbued wood focus (Eberron). You choose one that is a damage type you tend to use (fire in my case, so Fernian Ash) and it gives +1 damage...and scribes Wizards can change damage type (to the one you have the wood focus). Another common item up is the orb of shielding (select by resistance type), also from Eberron.

In my experience...

Interesting. I've never thought about this. More spells and damage types are always great, though.

Think out side the box a little, or what will I use at 20?
bag of holding?
broom of flying or winged boots
cloak of elven kind or boots
Stone of good luck
i would be hard pressed not to take a bag of holding or flight, both immeasurable useful
