I was considering upgrading my subscription to Master tier from hero tier. I see that i have to cancel the hero tier to do this and i was wondering since i already paid the yearly rate if i would get any credit towards the master tier subscription.
If you have a query or issue about billing or purchases, please head over to the D&D Beyond support site. The support team will be able to assist you with this matter.
I'm sorry you feel that we have caused you extra work to get what you are looking for.
Unfortunately, a public forum is not a secure place to be able to discuss your finances & account.
I helped you as much as I am able to, but simply the official support staff are the only ones who can help you here, as they have access to the account information.
For those who may find this thread looking for a solution: In my case, I reached out via email and am just waiting for a response back. I've been told that there is no "easy" way to upgrade as the toolset currently stands, but it is being worked on. The support email gave me the option to effectively refund (it's been under a week, so I don't know if that is a factor) the Hero subscription so I can then follow up with a Master subscription.
I hadn't seen an option for upgrading my account and found this thread. Noticing this is from early 2018 and it being January 2019 right now I have to say I'm astounded there's still no easy way to simply upgrade subscription type.
I too am astounded. I would like to simply upgrade to a Masters account (without canceling, without a bunch of emails, without waiting for my current yearly subscription to expire and without double paying). This was requested Dec 17th, 2017. It's now Feb 24th, 2019. 13 months later and no button to upgrade. Wow. This worries me about the developer team's coding skills and the architecture of this system. Or perhaps its management? What does this say about the future development of DnD Beyond? If it takes over a year to get billing figured out...?
The other potential takeaway from this is that there are very few requests for this (a handful in 18 months).
Is it worth developing and implementing systems to handle a small number of cases, when they can be handled by the support team?
I think the majority of D&D Beyond users would much rather that the development time is spent on additional website features that enhance a game of D&D.
Now, I am not saying that the site shouldn't have an "upgrade subscription" button and the ability to handle it, but calling the skills of the development team into questions seems very unnecessary.
I simply think it's a missed opportunity and there's money being left on the table. I, for one, am not jumping through hoops to upgrade. I'm not alone, I guarantee. It's just a shame is all.
I don't plan to upgrade immediately but do think I will at some point. As good as Beyond is about crediting purchases within books towards the purchase of a book, it seems like calculations regarding subscriptions would be fairly simple as well. Simply deduct the unused portion of the remaining subscription from the cost of the new one. This isn't difficult nor does it need to be done manually. Seems this could potentially be a number of free months, a credit towards an annual purchase, and/or small reduction (potentially insignificant) towards the first month of the new monthly sub.
Regarding the number of inquiries, it probably is a much higher number of customers that are impacted than are reporting/inquiring on the issue. Though I wouldn't call it a priority either. Do fix it eventually though. Likely a handful of hours work and a handful more to test then implement.
Sorry to resurrect this dead thread, but has any progress been made here? I am considering upgrading my subscription but there are no clear answers out there.
I just submitted a request to upgrade from my current Hero Tier subscription to a Master Tier subscription. I found the form easy to use and I'll update on this thread once it's been completed and let everyone know how it went.
I'll also add that having played 4e with both the original offline Character Builder and then the online Character Builder that D&D Beyond is way more robust and more useful for actual gameplay at the table than either of 4e's entries. Though, I much preferred the original 4e CB over the online they came out with.
I got a same day response from customer service that they had refunded my account on a pro-rated basis for the remaining time I had left and told me to go ahead and subscribe to the other tier. Basically extending trust to me that I would follow through and actually upgrade, which I did immediately. However, I could have just used it as an excuse to get out of the annual commitment I signed up for. So, this shows me great customer service and trust in their customers. The process was easy and all of my content (characters) were all available.
I'm going to reply here, because I often NEVER do (not beyond, specifically, but forums in general),
Often cases like these seem "handful" or "fringe" because everyone who is interested in the topic finds a post like this and assumes there is no progress (or won't be any), so they don't post. The lack of volume of requests might not be because of lack of interest in a solution, but because it doesn't seem worthwhile to post the request after surveying other such posts. One of the downsides to being a top-level google result.
I would also like to see Hero -> Master upgrade implemented, for what it's worth.

Would have been nice to get a follow-up to this as I'm sure more people than just I are wondering the very same thing.
I never looked further into it myself. I have a policy against doing extra work to give people more money

Perhaps a self-fulfilling prophecy? Very few requests because there is no simple upgrade process.
I clicked through to the support site and found this specific response.
I corresponded with DnD Beyond Customer service and had a very satisfying experience upgrading my subscription.

I had the same experience.
You nailed it. The trust extended says volumes about their customer service.
The good will is noticed and reciprocated!
